Marriott just announced a major change to how you can book award reservations. Until now, there was a feature called Points Advance which would allow you to book award reservations prior to having enough points, as long as you had enough points by the time of your stay. Today that changed.
Per Marriott:
Here are the details:
- You have 60 days from today or up to 14 days prior to arrival (whichever comes first) to earn enough Points to cover your existing Points Advance reservations.
- Reservations made using Points Advance will be held for up to 60 days and will only be confirmed once the required Points are earned or purchased.
- If you do not earn or purchase enough Points to cover the reservation within 60 days, or by 14 days prior to arrival (whichever comes first), the reservation hold will be canceled.
What to do next:
- If you have an existing Points Advance reservation, log in to your account and make sure you have, or will have, enough Points to cover your upcoming reservations within the required time frame. If you already have the Points you need, select modify on the reservation and follow the steps to complete your booking.
Make sure you check your future reservations to ensure your reservations don’t get canceled. Hopefully this will free up some additional award rooms for booking.
