Frontier reduces baggage weight allowance

If you fly on Frontier, be aware that the baggage weight allowance has been reduced to 40 pounds for new tickets purchased for travel after March 1.  This is lower than most airlines with 50 or 70 pound allowances.   This reduced weight allowance applies to 50K and 100K elite fliers as well, which I find odd.  The rule also applies if you purchase the Works package which includes a checked bag.

Here are the exact rules as stated by Frontier:

Checked bags must be no larger than 62 linear inches (that’s length + width + depth) including handles, wheels and straps; oversized bags subject to charge

  • Maximum weight – changes for bookings effective January 18, 2022; overweight bags subject to charge
    • For tickets purchased before January 18, 2022, maximum of 50 lbs (22.6 kilograms)
    • For tickets purchased on or after January 18, 2022, and travel completed before March 1, 2022, maximum of 50 lbs (22.6 kilograms)
    • For tickets purchased on or after January 18, 2022, and travel on or after March 1, 2022, maximum of 40 lbs (18.1 kilograms
  • Baggage weighing 100 or more lbs (45 kilograms) or exceeding 110 linear inches will not be accepted, with the exception of assistive devices or musical instruments

I hope this isn’t a sign to come of what will happen on other airlines.
