Have you ever purchased a plane ticket (ahh!!!) only to find the airfare then drops? Several airlines allow you to receive travel vouchers. 

For example, Southwest will give you a voucher for the fare difference.  On United, if the fare drops within 30 days of purchase, you can get a travel voucher for future travel good for one year.  However, there is a $50 fee per ticket, so if the fare drop is less than $50, you are out of luck as the fee is greater than the fare drop.  

In order to take advantage of this, you must call the airline.  If you booked through a travel agent, they must contact the airline.
