Earn extra points through shopping portals

November 4, 2019|Shopping Portals

There are many ways to earn frequent flier miles, American Express Membership Rewards, or even Chase Ultimate Rewards.  One such way is by shopping through SHOPPING PORTALS online.

Shopping portals are sites which you click through that take you to the online store where you’d like to make a purchase.  For example, Rakuten (formerly Ebates) is a popular shopping portal.  Once you have an account, you search on the store where you would like to make a purchase.   Right now, Macy’s is giving 10% back.  This is in ADDITION to any coupons you might have for Macy’s.   Some shopping portals give cash back (i.e. Mr. Rebates), while some give Frequent Flier Miles (i.e. American AIrlines shopping portal), and some give transferable points (i.e. Chase Ultimate Rewards shopping portal).

The good thing about Rakuten is that you can earn either cash, or American Express Membership rewards points which are generally valued at 2 cents per points.   For example, since Macy’s currently offers 10% back on Rakuten, if you make a $100 purchase at Macy’s, you can earn either $10 cash back or 1,000 Membership Rewards Points which is worth $20.  If you sign up for a Rakuten account through my link below, you will earn $10 bonus dollars after spending $25.

A good starting point to see which portal to use is cashbackmonitor.com.  You enter the store in the search bar and it will show you what you can earn from all the different shopping portals.  Keep in mind, the values for each store change over time, so make sure to check before you make a purchase.

If you get in the habit of always using a shopping portal when making online purchases, your mileage balances will grow fast.
